Sustainability
Our aggregate washing plant.
You may be surprised by just how much material we can recycle at our on-site wash plant. With a commitment to minimising the volume of construction waste going to landfills, our wash plant, along with our crushing processes, allows us to produce high-quality washed aggregates in a variety of sizes from waste materials.
Waste is collected using our grab hire wagon, which is then tipped off in our Birtley yard. Waste concrete materials are screened down to 50mm, and all hardcore is crushed. The 50mm pieces go into our wash plant (with organics), where they are washed. From this, we produce clean 10mm gravel, 20mm gravel, and sand. We use recycled concrete to make our strong, interlocking concrete blocks.
Thanks to our wash plant, this process contributes to a circular economy and reduces the need for excess natural resources to be blasted, excavated and transported from quarries.
Reducing waste with bulk aggregate deliveries.
Delivering aggregates in bulk reduces the amount of packaging waste, leading to environmental benefits and reduced disposal costs associated with waste packaging. Bulk delivery also reduces fuel consumption in making multiple deliveries.
From as little as one tonne to 29 tonnes per load, we can deliver all manner of materials across the North East region, from decorative aggregates to sand and topsoil. Loose or bagged, opting for bulk aggregate delivery means less waste and fewer deliveries, providing a fast, efficient and sustainable solution for tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts alike.
Updating our internal processes.
With greater emphasis being placed on sustainable processes within the construction industry, we believe sustainability should begin from the ground up. For this reason, we are committed to adopting internal practices that reflect our dedication to reducing our environmental footprint.
In our effort to become a paperless organisation, our drivers now use digital tablets for all order documentation. We have also recently upgraded our office lighting to low-energy LEDs. Beyond that, we have invested heavily in new plant and ready-mix concrete lorries, which are also regularly serviced to maximise operational efficiency.
